100 Level FUTA Student Found Dead Near School Gate

A sad incident has been reported at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, after a 23-year-old 100 level student, Favour Olaniyi, was found dead in a bush close to the school’s North Gate.

Favour was a student of Surveying and Geoinformatics. According to reports, his body was discovered near the university area, and an empty container suspected to have contained a harmful chemical substance was said to have been found around the scene.

The incident caused shock among students and residents around the school. Many people were seen discussing the matter, as they tried to understand what could have happened.

The university’s Director of Corporate Communication and Protocol, Adegbenro Adebanjo, confirmed the incident. He said the school had already informed the student’s family.

He also explained that the university reported the matter to security agencies immediately after it was brought to their attention. According to him, the school’s medical team, security officials, and the police worked together to move the body to the mortuary.

Adebanjo added that the university is cooperating with the police as investigations continue. He also said the Student Affairs Division is offering counselling and support to students who may be affected by the sad news.

The Nigeria Police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, also confirmed that detectives have started investigating the case. He said officers who visited the scene did not notice any visible sign of violence on the body.

The body has been taken to the mortuary for preservation and further examination while the police continue their investigation.

Authorities also advised young people to seek help whenever they are going through difficult times, instead of keeping their struggles to themselves or taking actions that may put their lives at risk.
